Ready for the shift: how Banqup is embracing the Bancontact Pay evolution

The Belgian payments landscape is evolving. By Spring 2026, the strategic consolidation of the Bancontact Payconiq Company into the Bancontact Company will streamline its brands. This move is a definitive step toward a simplified, future-proof, and potentially pan-European payment experience. At Banqup, we view this evolution as an opportunity to further enhance the services we provide our clients.

A clearer payment ecosystem: what changes are coming

This change aims for a crystal-clear identity across all payment touchpoints. Starting in Spring 2026, here is what you can expect:

  • The current mobile payment app (Payconiq by Bancontact) will be renamed the Bancontact Pay app.

  • In-shop Payconiq stickers will be replaced with a new QR code sticker prominently featuring Bancontact Pay and the new European cross-border solution, Wero.

  • Online payments will be clarified with three distinct, user-friendly names:

    • Bancontact Pay (for mobile payment solutions)

    • Bancontact Card (for traditional card number/reader payments)

    • Bancontact One Click (for recurring and subscription payments)

Enhanced trust and simplicity for your business

While this is a brand evolution, the result is tangible business value. The rebrand will lead to:

  • Stronger customer trust: A unified and simplified identity builds greater confidence for consumers.

  • Clearer online checkout: The distinct naming of online payment methods will reduce friction and abandonment at the point of sale.

  • Immediate support: We are committed to making this transition smooth. The new brand, Bancontact Pay, will be reflected in the Banqup Terminal early in 2026, ensuring you are ahead of the curve.

Our future-proof commitment: Banqup is ready

Our confidence in this transition is underpinned by the strength of our own platform.

Banqup has recently renewed its Acquiring Processor certification, reaffirming the quality and rigour of our modern payment infrastructure. This certification validates our ability to adapt and integrate new standards effortlessly.

Looking ahead, we are focused on innovation:

  • New Functionalities: We are on track to roll out a wide range of new features by Spring 2026, coinciding perfectly with the Bancontact rebrand.

  • Wero Preparation: We are preparing for the integration of Wero, the new cross-border payment solution from the European Payments Initiative (EPI). This will be particularly significant for businesses operating in key markets such as the Netherlands, France, and Germany.

At Banqup, we are not just navigating change—we are leveraging it to provide a more streamlined, reliable, and future-ready payment experience for your business.
